Staying at Room Mate Aitana Amsterdam
Prior to all the COVID-19 restrictions, we started 2020 in Amsterdam. When planning trips, I tend to look at hotels first and then build an itinerary around this. So choosing a hotel or apartment is vital to planning, hence my stumble upon Room Mate Aitana. A modern and unique all-glass hotel right on the edge of the city caught my eye. Here is my experience at this eccentric hotel.

Room Mate Aitana – First Impressions
We arrived in Amsterdam in the evening and took the train to Amsterdam Centraal. Then just a more than a 10min walk away, walking passed the river we arrived at the hotel. The hotel is in a modern building on the new artificial island in Amsterdam and this place is absolutely huge.
On arrival, we were welcomed by a huge glass revolving door to a brightly toasted brown lighting of the spacious reception area. If you’re looking for a hotel to stay out with a modern edgy twist this is definitely the place to be.

Room Mate Aitana – Room
After the initial check-in and paying the tourist tax we were given the key to our room. (unfortunately in Jan 2020 the city increased this tax). Our room was located on the 12th floor.
When I made a reservation I mentioned that it was my partners birthday. I wasn’t specifically expecting much because when I made the reservation, I mentioned the special occasion and the hotel staff were kind enough to message me back with a range of different options. Unfortunately, the options on offer were great (flowers – champagne) but were little out of my budget.

To my surprise even though I declined on the additional options, the staff had decorated the room! They added a note on the mirror and had little decorations on the bed, some dutch treats and a message from the hotel. They really made our experience special.
This place as everything you’ll need in a hotel room and more. From Air conditioning, flatscreen TV to sustainable bathroom amenities which I appreciated.

Room Mate Aitana – Location
As mentioned before, the hotel is located on its own artificial island on the river less than 15 mins walk away from the main Amsterdam central station.
Every morning on our walk to other places in Amsterdam we had a lovely view of the eye museum and the A’DAM lookout building. Then at night we were able to walk along the beautifully lit up bridge to the island. A great location for anyone traveling to Amsterdam.

Final Thoughts
I really loved my experience at the hotel. Everything is so spacious from the bed to the bathroom to the huge doors, I couldn’t ask for anything more, apart from I would love to come here in the summer. With the bar and restaurant open onto the docks would be amazing.
The decor is really unique and modern and the terrace which gives you a beautiful view of Amsterdam from our room. The staff are incredibly professional and made the experience very enjoyable. Click here to find out more for the hotel and check out my other Amsterdam and Europe travel post.
